Seventy five percent of Africa’s drinking water comes from surface and groundwater and is often used with little or no purification, so they took as it is, or simply leave it to settle to remove sediments. It is therefore essential to provide low-cost methods to treat their water at the household level using household water disinfectant chemicals. Using of these chemical disinfectants is proven to reduce disease burden that arise due to unsafe drinking water. Experimental based method was used to assess the efficacy of household water disinfectant chemicals by comparison of the free residual chlorine of all the three chemicals after 30 minutes and 24 hour. The level of disinfection byproducts that are produced while using these chemicals for household water treatment is also addressed in this study. The overall laboratory experiments were conducted at different water turbidities that ranged from 7-60 NTU.
