Fertilizer/ feed for the plant:Fertilise your Areca Palm every two weeks in summers and spring with a standard houseplant fertilizer. Fronds of the palm benefit from a good micronutrient rich fertiliser. Repotting : The Areca Palm does not need to be repotted often. Repot your plant every 2 – 3 years to refresh the soil as it prefers tight root bound soil system in small pots. Propogation : Areca Palm can be propagated using seeds. You can also propagate Areca Palm by cutting an offshoot with root nodes from the main plant and planting it in a good soil mix.
Common Problems
1. Why is Areca Palm wilting? Wilting leaves of the areca palm are a clear indication of underwatering. Water it promptly to avoid leaf shrivelling. 2. Why are my Areca Palm leaves yellowing? The leaves/fronds of Areca Palm yellow due to irregular watering and a parched plant. Water your plant regularly whenever the topsoil dries out. Ensure that the soil is moist at all times but not soggy. 3. Brown tips of Areca Palm leaves. Browning tips of Areca Palm leaves is caused by over-watering, insufficient light, or low humidity. If over-watering seems to be the issue, water it less frequently and only when the topsoil dries out. Repotting : Your ZZ will outgrow its current pot in a year and would require repotting in a one size larger pot. However, propagation by rhizome division cannot be done often as the new rhizomes grow back very slowly.
